When looking for an internship start by tapping your own network (parents, family, friends, lecturers), relying on personal referrals and targeting companies that attract you. Then use online searches – focus on what you want and search these sites:
LinkedIn:Use professional networking site LinkedIn to hunt for internships. Start by building a profile for yourself and reach out to everyone you know, especially professional contacts. Get people you’ve worked for to write you recommendations. Include volunteer work you have done.

Google: Don’t underestimate the power of a Google search. This is a great shortcut to search for internships, and you can search for internships in your industry and region specifically. You can even search internationally, there might be the ideal opportunity for you abroad. Just think big and believe in yourself. Also search for online job sites and companies you would like to work for specifically. When you target specific companies, send your CV to a specific person in HR/talent management at that company, instead of to a generic company address. Remember to include a professional cover letter detailing to your prospective employer what you can do for them, and what you believe sets you apart from other candidates. Do your research then start applying.

Tips:
Ensure your internship is paid, even a minimum amount, the trade off is you gain on-the-job experience.
Ensure you follow an internship programme that covers the areas in your chosen field. An intern is not a full-time skivvy. Yes you will be required to do menial tasks from time to time, all jobs require that, but the majority of your internship programme should cover tasks and projects in your chosen field, and incorporate mentoring from your manager/supervisor.
While you wait for an internship, do volunteer work, it counts on your CV.
